Vegas With Randolph's Fabulous Freebie

Please please yourself and freely scarper off with this top-notch number from D.C.-area favepoppers, Vegas With Randolph. Three more singles are due out soon, all aiming to whet the appetite for their forthcoming LP, A+1, due out in 2015. (Personally, ours is, like, totally whetted.) Read and hear more here, here, here, here, and here.

Jonny Polonsky's Vision

We've been buying this LA popper for quite a few years now and are very much enjoying his just-released EP of mid-paced rockers, Vision. Pick it up for name-your-price download at Bandcamp and check out the other JP product available there as well. Gather more sights and sounds here, here, here, and here. We begin with our favorite from Vision, but the other three are in the widget as well.

And here's one we bought that always gets us going going . . .

At Second Blush Response

Pawgazer.

We didn't say much about these excellent Adelaide gazers back in July but that doesn't mean we didn't love the music. Oh, no, quite the reverse. Well, Blush Response is back with more, and even though the EP's got "Dead Air," there's definitely no dead air. Oh, no, quite the reverse. Nos. 2 & 4 are our favorites. Read an excellent interview at Sounds Better With Reverb and keep learning more at Facebook.

Jim Noir - The Broadway Jets

That's 11/03, Yanks.

The pride of Davyhulme, Jim Noir, aka "Alan Roberts," returns with his fifth LP, Finnish Line, come November 3. We were happy to receive his email announcing such and to be given access to the free and legal download of "The Broadway Jets." Check out the widget and if you like what you're hearing, click the link below it to initiate downloading activity. We did and did and are glad we did. BTW, Jim, we tried to embed the widget you provided but kept getting an error message. Forgive?

Hail, White Fence, & All Thy Works!

Tim 'n' Ty

We try not to play favorites here at Powerpopulist, but . . . wait, what a crock, as that's all we do play here at Powerpopulist. Let us begin anew.

In case we haven't made it fairly clear, White Fence are one of our very favorite bands and have been for some time now. And of course before Fencemeister Tim Presley got out the whitewash, we were loving what he was doing in the more somber but highly uplifting settings of Darker My Love.

So it's a no-brainer (convenient for us) that when we just now came across Famous Class's Less Artists More Condos (LAMC) issue #12, we would drop all we were doing (sorry 'bout the dishes, Darling) and post it prontito. If you haven't yet picked up the most recent WF triumph, the Ty Segall-produced For The Recently Found Innocent, you should start to click most ricky tick. (And of course, check out LAMC #11, with Segal bandmate Mikal Cronin here.)

Perhaps we're not yet enamored of the work of White Fence touring guitarist Jack Name (aka John Webster Johns) quite as much, but that doesn't mean we won't be or you shouldn't be. So check out the second widgeted tune below if you're so inclined.

Enough jabber. Cue the ears.

The Sunchymes' Summer Mix of "Through my eyes"+

Less than a month of Summer/Winter left but no worries, Northampton one-man chymer Aaron Hemington sounds great year-round. Listen below, read a spate of bloggerly encomium here and here (click "See More"), get another freesong here, and buy some here. If you overlook the G. Harrison cover widgeted second below, you might well . . . tear up.

Super Time with SuperTempo

We found this Venetian band at one of our favorite Italian music blogs, Polaroid, and couldn't resist their primo powerpop. Our favorites are #2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 13, & 14, but there isn't a dud in the lot.

Botany (Bay) Battle: Black Zeros vs. Buzz Kull

Many thanks to Happy blog for the headsup on Sydney surfpoppers, Black Zeros. Their cover of Sydney darkwavers Buzz Kull's "Fallen Flower" sets up a nice little artificial battle of the bands where one is neither needed nor sought. But, relentless agitpoppers as we are, how could we possiblly leave well enough alone? The two contendahs actually seem all friendly and peaceful-like, but for how long? Mwah-ha-ha.

Swiggin' & Ziggin' with The Zags

A recent hot afternoon walk became even pleasantly hotter when Portland's The Zags popped up on the potable playuh. We drank it right down, being nowhere near a bridge nor water nor 1987, smacking and smiling through the sweat. The rest of their excellent Small Bags EP is available for name-ya-price download at Bandcamp. Face off here.

Back to the Apple with The Washington Squares

That preceding post on Bernard/Normal Person has put us in a "New York frame of mind." So here are some beloved songs from one of our favorite groups from the late 1980s, neofolksters The Washington Squares. Left-click to listen, right-click to download, mouse-scroll-wheel-click to do what we told you about here. More information, videos, and free downloads are available at their official website. Buy more here.

We're Enjoying Normal Person

A New Yorker called Bernard records under the bandname Normal Person, and we very much like what he's doing in the realm of music. As do many of us, Bernard kind of bounces back and forth between "normal" and "manic." Numbers 1 & 3 below are kind of the former, while Nos. 2 & 4 are more the latter. (Maybe.) No. 5 kind of begins in the former and transitions into the latter. (If you're still remembering which is which, kudos to ya). We're not completely sure which No. 6 is, and that leaves you room to decide. Actually, feel free to decide about any of them. We were contemplating calling Nos. 1 & 3 the latter and Nos. 2 & 4 the former, just to, you know, mess with ya, but changed our mind(s) in consideration of your psychic well-being. And in consideration of your psychic well-being, you probably took charge and stopped reading this "post" quite early-on, in which case kudos, blessings and honor and glory and power be unto you, be unto you that sitteth upon the throne (at your drumkit, in your throneroom, your loo, wherever).
