Turn Ons: Rozwell Kid, Niall, Kingdom of the Holy Sun, Crystal Shipsss, PanSTARRS, Sauna Heat

Here's a collection of recent finds, not always up-to-date and so eclectic as likely to "turn off" as many visitors as they "turn on." (The pppeabrain was entirely the latter, OF COURSE.) Needless to say, we'd love to turn you on.

Tweest and Jangle with Star Tropics

Chicago dreampoppers Star Tropics have just (yesterday) released their first studio tracks in nearly two years. (See, hear, taste, touch, feel in the first widget below. The second widget has two from their 2013 "single.") We're finding them the perfect antidote to the winter/summer doldrums (depending on which tropic you happen to frequent). Explore more here and here.

Love, Hippies & Gangsters

Love? Check. Hippies? Sure. Gangsters? Thanks to The Active Listener for the headsup on this London-based headband. We mostly love #'s 1 & 2. More at Bandcamp and Facebook.

From The Active Listener: Lovebyrd, Prefab Messiahs, Late Pioneers

Master Nathan Ford has just released The Active Listener Sampler 29 and, as usual, it's a doozy. We've posted our three favorites below and suggest you go to Bandcamp and check out the rest (although you could easily do so on any of the three widgets below. At Bandcamp, though, you will find multiple links to information about all 15 bands featured.)

We would like to make special note of the forthcoming (March 10) release of Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive, the first LP in 32 years by Wormtown (aka Worcester), Mass.'s The Prefab Messiahs. We've had the opportunity to hear the whole LP and can highly recommend seven of the eight songs (the last one seems kind of jokey, although maybe it's just on us). Anyway, be on the lookout for this excellent album.

We also found that Burger Records (which is co-releasing KYSDA along with label KLYAM [Kids Like You & Me]) has made a 27-song Prefab Messiahs compilation called Devolver available for name-your-price download at Bandcamp. It is highly lo-fi and not particularly representative of the forthcoming LP, but we found six songs we particularly liked.

We'll also mention that The Late Pioneers' fine Walbum is available for n-y-p download at Bandcamp. Explore more by German band LOVEBYRD herehere, and here.

Poppy Post: Wyatt Blair, Pop Zeus, The Wellingtons, The Bingers, Beware Fashionable Women, Gleeson

We've been trying to think of a word-based intro to this excellent pop, but so far, this is it.

Read the bittersweet backstory at Bandcamp.

Lots of good ones on this Italian label's comp

An excellent self-selected comp, if you need introductions

Our fave from the latest Active Listener sampler

We wanted #1, but sometimes Bandcamp just will have its way. Powerpopaholic has the latest fashions.

We especially liked #20, too.

Pleasantly Trembling with Static in Verona

Wow, no kidding, just last week (January 29, 2:30 p.m., to be exact), we heard "Trembling Timbre" and thought (paraphrasing now), "If we were of the ilk that did lists of Favesongs of (Insert year.), this would certainly have been on ours for 2014." So imagine the thrill of just now visiting newfoundfaveblog Shoegazer Alive 9 and finding it and the whole marvelous Everything You Knew Before You Knew Everything available for name-your-price download at Bandcamp. That's right, you can't, but what you can do is listen below and take it from there. We were, btw, also particularly enamored of #'s 2 & 10. Pay additional visits to Static in Verona here, here, here, here, and here.

Twin Peaks - In The Morning (In The Evening)

Actually it's neither morn nor eve (where we are), and that's okay because we just noticed Austin Town Hall's got it 24/7.

Music of the Sphere: Talk In Tongues, Courtney Barnett, The King Khan And BBQ Show, California X, Belle and Sebastian, POND, The Primitives, Mojave 3, Elliot Smith

Many thanks to the bloghosts for posting the following.

Indie Rock Cafe recently posted 30 downloadable songs in a "Best New Releases" post. The first four below are our favorites. Once you get to IRC you'll need to do some heavy-duty scrolling or perhaps use Ctrl-F or Command-F keyboard commands to get to the specific songs. (Feel free to sample all 30, of course. [Big of us, sure, but hey.]) The final two songs are from a different post.

POND - Waiting Around For Grace - Indie Rock Cafe - Please consider waiting until the 0:59 mark before making any drastic decisions.

Everything's Exploding: Mikal Cronin, Mrs. Magician, Ringo Deathstarr, California X, Milk Maid, Bad Books

The excellent blog/label Exploding in Sound has recently swum into our ken, along with a series of compilations on which we've feasted extensively. We've previously posted on most of the following bands but don't really know if you personally have heard them or these particular songs. It might take several posts to consume the groaning board, but we shall see. May we take this opportunity to salute and thank EiS for their superb blogandcompilationship? Apparently so.
