Tea Cozies: Muchos Dracula

We made a huge mistake not posting this song a couple of months ago when we found it at faveblog The Finest Kiss. We downloaded it while it was still free at Bandcamp but by the time we were set to post, it was no longer free. But after grooving mightily on it earlier today (evidence here) we put forth renewed effort and found it floating free at SoundCloud, hence the widget action below.

Click on the various links we just provided to check out this excellent Seattle band. We'd say more were we not such inarticulate/laconic bloggoons. Besides, what we don't tell you your ears will, and if they don't, The Finest Kiss does with its usual finesse. They, or he, not sure which, put another cozy little number in TFK's excellent Best of 2012 post. (Scroll down to #9.)

Oh, yeah, and Happy New Year to ya.

Hot Nun's Hot

We always get excited when finding out Spinning Jennies/The Well Wishers aceman Jeff Shelton is up to something new. Thus are we well fired up to hear of his latest project, Hot Nun, some early fruit of which is posted below and final harvest of which is due out early next year. We may follow up on this soon, but want to post it right away, the mad, mega-competitive world of powerpop being what it is(n't). BTW, there's another selection by Hot Nun st(r)eaming at Bandcamp. Click here to check out our previous Well Wishers posts containing Shelton-sanctioned free and legals.

Christian Bland & The Revelators

Yeh, so that's the other one we found during our recent scrobblefest at last.fm. Both longtime psych faves The Black Angels' Christian Bland and The Revelators themselves are revelatory indeed in this excellent song. (So, apparently, is the individual to whom the song is addressed.) Read more here and here.

Channeling Elk

We were just now over at last.fm innocently celebrating being able to scrobble again when we found a couple of fairly recent discoveries all free and available like. Torontans Elk seem to be channeling a bit of the old Mickey and Sylvia with that irresistible little hook in "Riverview #3" and hint at it in the very next Daydream ditty as well. We don't hear it quite so much in the curl-shootin' "Sometime Together," but it's still a highly pleasing song. (See/hear/dl below.) Go to Bandcamp and scope out more, if you like. (Sarah Greene says they're channeling The Kinks, and she may well be right.) Whomever they're channeling, if indeed they're channeling anyone at all, we're just mighty happy our ears are channeling them.

Oh, and that other recent discovery? To be posted soon.

Fahrtin' Around mit den Trippies

Maybe we're takin' liberties mit der deutschen Sprache, but these Hamburgers make us do exactly what their name bespeaks. Cloudberry promise more and there's already some's been waitin' for us here. For example:

Fantastic, indeed.

New Hue About The CRY!

These Portlandians caused quite an uproar in these parts last year about this time, so we're grinnin' again to hear from John Their Manager that they've recently released new terrifics. We love that other one, too, but please know that it's kind of big (like, physically, weighing in @ 47.48 MB). You will find twelve more free and legals at Soundcloud, including the two we posted last year.

Proud to Post The Pride

Download here.

Many thanks to much-valued visitorfriend John B for pointing us toward this superb song or, as he put it, "Ultimate Fakebook doing 1964 Beatles." Yeah, yeah, etc. At the risk of mixing media, we wondered if there's any connection to this. (No harm in asking, IS THERE?)

The Dollyrots' Eponymous Fourth

We've bought and loved our fair share of product by these Florida-to-California transplants, and you should, too.

"B-b-b-b-b-but, pp, you've put t-t-t-two identical widgets in the same post."

Not so, d-bag, and quit trying to change the subject. Besides, they serve different porpoises, if you will but deploy your cursed cursor.

"Oh."

The High Water Marks - No Pretense on Our Part: We Love 'Em

Long-time visitors to our little lair (if there are indeed such animals extant) might remember our floodtide esteem for this fabulous musical outfit. (Click here to be reminded and to download one of our very favorite songs of this still-new century, "Good I Feel Bad," the epitome of rolling rock.) Thus were we ecstatic to find a new album available for free. . .FREAKIN' FREE (gasp, spit). . .download at Bandcamp. Although the widgets below say "Buy" (and buy you may), once you're at Bandcamp, you'll see what we mean about that "free" bidness. Here are three favorites from Pretending To Be Loud.

(We're pretty sure we got the headsup on this from a faveblog but we failed to make a note of it. We will gladly tender gratitude should our memories be jogged.)

EndAnd: Two Adventures

The instruments are perfectly poppy and crunchy and stuff, while the voice perhaps ventures an ooch beyond the outer limits of da popperhood. But so what? and bravo! and death to anyone who. . .oops, sorry, carried away. (Judging from his Comment, we're pretty sure our man John B. won't object at all and might well add a bravo or two of his own.) Here are our two favorites from the five-song EP, Adventures of Hi-Fi in Space, available for free download at Bandcamp.

Tame Impala - Apocalypse Dreams

We fully realize this one appeared all over the blogosphere in early July, and to widespread ebullitions of gleeee, including our own. We certainly grabbed it then and selfishly squirreled it away for secret listening experiences. Do we feel guilty? Always, but we've dealt with it privately and find our hearts amazingly tame (though we are not impalas.) Our horns have been raised and tootin' for these Perth Aussies since we first heard them at Rollo & Grady's back in early '10, and we are well psyched about Lonerism, their sophomore effort, due out on John Lennon's birthday (one day earlier in Europe and four days earlier in Oz).

Easy, Tiger

We love a great many of the sounds this Austin band is making. You can find more for free download at their Bandcamp page. Oh, and this is one of those situations that drives Comma Consistency Compulsives cuckoo, so look out.

A.C. Newman - We're Not Talking (Much) Either, But We're Certainly All Ears

from The New Pornographer's 3rd solo LP,
dropping on John Lennon's birthday
via

You just heard it, so need we say more? No, we do not, but if you want to read more, click here. We've expressed our love for this huge talent and his bands several times previously, so naturally it's needles and pins-ah we're on. At least five free and legals are still available in those previous posts.

Redd Kross - Stay Away From Downtown

Two days ago we posted an excelente from these Califaves' recently released LP, Researching the Blues. Here's another we like even better. (We're having to tweak the code a bit to make sure the "Download" button is visible. Sorry.)

Music of the Sphere: Cotton Mather, The Hollies, Dusted

Yeh, we usually wait till we've built up a bigger cache, but we don't know when that Cotton Mather song will be . . . gone. And since we've got these other two excelentes in the cache, why not they, too? As always, many thanks to the generous bloggers.

Cotton Mather - I'll Be Gone - Side One Track One

The Hollies - Look Through Any Window - Peter's Power Pop - We like that Michael Carpenter/Rob Smith cover, too.

Dusted - Into The Atmosphere - Stereopills

Music of the Sphere: exlovers, Resonars, Late Show, S. Flax, T. Segall, D. Shearer, Ski Lodge, F. Mac, White Fence, Polly Hi, Milk Maid, ELO, The Boss, Young Guv, Los Lobos, Bleeding Rainbow, Nu Sensae

Some goodstuff we've found/loved. Thanks to the hosters.

exlovers - This Love Will Lead You On - The Finest Kiss

Dylan Shearer - Afterwhile - Austin Town Hall

White Fence - Allison Road (Gin Blossoms cover) - Aquarium Drunkard

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk - AM, Then FM

Bruce Springsteen - The Ties That Bind - Any Major Dude With Half A Heart

Polly Hi - In The Morning - Rollo & Grady
Milk Maid - Do Right - Rollo & Grady

Electric Light Orchestra - Sweet Talking Woman - Star Maker Machine
Los Lobos - Will the Wolf Survive? - Star Maker Machine

The Resonars - Long Long Thoughts - Raven Sings the Blues
The Late Show - Take A Chance - Raven Sings the Blues
Young Guv & The Scuzz - Heal Over Time - Raven Sings the Blues
Sam Flax - Fire Doesn’t Burn Itself - Raven Sings the Blues

Bleeding Rainbow - Dead End - Gimme Tinnitus
Ty Segall Band - I Bought My Eyes - Gimme Tinnitus
Nu Sensae - Swim - Gimme Tinnitus - Some poppers won’t like this. Our opinion: it rocks in ways quite pleasing to certain of our sensibilities. You've been warned/enticed.
Ski Lodge - I Would Die To Be - Gimme Tinnitus - This gets kind of complicated, so please pay attention. When we were at Gimme Tinnitus, this song was actually mislabelled as “I Would Be Your Man” by Quiet Loudly. Maybe Gimme has fixed it by now, though.
Update: The song is now available at Austin Town Hall.
