The Rainyard: Jangleurs Par Excellence

Faveblog The Finest Kiss has an annex called LOOFK (Left Off Of Finest Kiss). We discovered there a pathway to a reissue of excellent songs by 80s Perth band The Rainyard. These Aussies are pretty much guaranteed to please any of The Byrdsian flock. LOOFK mentioned finding the band at another blog called Record Turnover, where you can gather a nice cache of information we feel no need to repeat. We, of course, deal mainly in sounds, hence the widgets below.

We're doing it kind of weirdly but hope that's okay. You can download the first songour favefairly quickly by clicking Download and proceeding therefrom. The next two songs are our second and third favorites and seem at first to be only for streaming. They can, however, be downloaded via the fourth widget, on which you can stream and then obtain all 14 songs at once on a name-your-price basis via Bandcamp.

eMusic pppurcha$e$ - November 2011 - March 2012

We say this pretty much every time we do one of these pppurcha$e$ po$t$, mainly because it's true: we found a hitload of great songs at eMusic these past five months. True, there was that spell when we let our five-year subscription expire, but it took only one month of missing it to get us crawling back for more. And we're glad we did!

So you may be asking, "Hey, pp, anything in particular you recommend out of those 172 songs?" To which we must ask how you knew there were 172, unless you've already clicked here and taken a look at the list. In which case, we must answer, "Thanks for asking/clicking."

Now remember, we pretty much love every one of our new song chilluns, even the ones we haven't yet been able to spend much time with. But right off the top of our head(s), we've really enjoyed the singletons we bought by Captain Murphy, The Galileo 7 (we liked a bunch more by TG7 but this was the one we bought this time), Moles, The Primitons, Robbers on High Street, and the Young Sinclairs. Of the artists we bought multiple songs by, we're especially excited about Allen Clapp, The Bevis Frond, The High Back Chairs, Kelley Stoltz, Liarbirds, Simon Turner, The Story UK, and Terry Malts. (Click artist names to go to their eMusic page.)

We also might mention that we've been getting some great recommendations at several of the power pop and indiepop rooms at turntable.fm. If you haven't tried it yet, tt.fm is a great place to listen to and chat about music with aficionados of the same genres you like. In some ways it's better than blogging, particularly the way the people actually make supportive comments about the music you're sharing.

Colour Me Wednesday on Thursday

Friday, Saturday, and the rest of the week will do as well. You could most definitely color us impressed upon hearing this West London band over at a delightful, new-to-us Greek blog called Songs for Girls to Sing. If you like "Purge Your Inner Tory," click below to see the fun video. More CMW songs are also downloadable at Soundcloud, and you can visit the band's website here. Incidentally, the bassist's shirt relays Elvis's directive to Get Happy!!. We did.

Blooper Gets It Right

We love their self-deprecating bandname, but this Seattle outfit's music mostly goes far the other way. (They do commit one or two on last year's Ballard Avenue EP, but so what? When they are on, they are right on.)

Are they powerpop or indiepop? Frankly, our dears, we don't give a farthing. It's righteous pop.

The first song below is from a forthcoming EP, while "Courtney" is from the aforementioned Ballard Avenue. For you downloaders, a word of explanation: although the "Courtney" widget says "Buy" (and please do, if you like), you can in fact download the entire EP for free at their Bandcamp site. Gather more information, photos, etc., at their Facebook page. Mmmwaaah to The Finest Kiss for the headsup.

Mancunian Schweetness from The Candy Strypers

We received a very nice email from one Paul Hughes of Manchester, England, England, that read in full as follows:

Schweet, wot?

"And what, pp, is so nice, so schweet about that?" you ask.

Some of our answer follows, along with links to the rest of an LP full of excellent downloadable powerpop, plus individual songs on Facebook and elsewhere.
