Recent Finds: The Lad Mags, The Higher State, The John Sally Ride, Rocket Bureau, The BQs, The Blurry Minds

Here you will find a few recent finds we find enjoyable. (Yes, we sense both a Grammy and a Nobel Prize for Literature are in the offing.)

From Edmonton - Facebook

From Arizona - Facebook

From New York - Hat tip to I Don't Hear A Single

From Madison - RB's "Go Away Girl" is still available for n-y-p download at this previous post. And, yes, we used the same picture, but that's because it makes us chortle.

From Raleigh - We also particularly like #s 2, 3, & 8.

From Princeton - Also highly diggable: #5

Some Singles We Heard (And Loved) at I Don't Hear A Single

Heels, Cabin, Dolls

It's always kind of strange (and exhilarating) to find our humble little blogchild listed on the blogroll of a site we hadn't yet encountered, especially one that's well stocked with excellent tuneage and written with facility and insight we do not display. Such is the case with the excellent British blog, I Don't Hear A Single, which is now firmly ensconced in our daily rota of exploration. Below you will find several favorites we discovered there, minus the excellent analysis and additional wealth of entertainment you will enjoy by visiting IDHAS. We'd like to thank Mr. Don Valentine for 'rolling and rocking us at his exemplary blog.

The Drywall Heels

Read about this Toronto band at IDHAS. We liked this one enough to buy it:

Red Cabin

Read on this New Yorker at IDHAS. And btw, our newish blogfriend Dennis did an excellent post on Red Cabin over at Poprock Record.

The Living Dolls

The L.A. band is featured here at IDHAS.

Ross's Pure Powerpop

Kind of how we felt, too.

Let loose on a pleasant walk, we recently heard the first song below launch forth on our mobile and oh, how we did soar! On a whim - and what a whim it was! - we thought we'd check to see if it might be available for you online, and sure enough, it wasn't. Just kidding, it was, along with a bunch more excelentes from Juan Antonio ROSS of Murcia, Spain. Below are our favorites from two of his LPs at Bandcamp. Explore further there and at Facebook. Warning: prepare to hear some primo powerpop.

We kinda fell behind on this pppurcha$e$ series thang, so here's an attempt to catch up. We got motivated by a friend over at Facebook who said he, too, liked to shop at eMusic, so we're working out a way to let one another know what we've been purchasing, Some visitors here at Powerpopulist have previously expressed appreciation for this feature, so if you're still interested, we apologize for going more than a year without it. We trust you've coped. Click a few words hence to see our Bandcamp Collection, which appears in reverse chronological order, beginning with our most recent purchases.

We've been enjoying Washington, D. C. band Dot Dash for almost six years now and are delighted they are making available for free download an EP with one song from each of their five albums. Last time we sent them coded gratitude but this time we're just gonna come right out and say it: Khop Khun Mak Kha, ya'll!!!

Mozes and the Firstborn Birth Marianne

We've been enjoying Eindhoven (Netherlands) band Mozes and the Firstborn for several years now and were delighted to receive emailed word that their new EP, Marianne, dropped today. We've posted our favorite song first below, but the entire EP is in the widget and available for name-your-price download at Bandcamp. In fact, their entire discography at Bandcamp is offered for nypdl, so have it it.

To Bleach Girls: We Like YOU, Heck Yes!

If we can believe their lyrics - and why not? - Byron Bay band Bleach Girls have the largeness of soul to encompass contradiction. In "Like You" (downloadable below), they immediately proclaim:
I like your hair cut,
I like it long.
You look so pretty,
You look so wrong.
But that's not the only reason we're loving this duo. Evidence of that is provided below, at SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and triple j unearthed, which has another free downloadable.

Many thanks to Little Indie Blogs for the headsup to the following.

Jitterz Give Us One Good Song

Very, very good, actually, and we're hoping the Leicester duo will be putting out more real soon. We loved it at first listen back in the Fall and are glad to be able to download it for name-your-price.

Two Faves From TBTCI's Orange Comp: The Prefab Messiahs & Spationauts + Additional Goodstuff

Posted below are two poppsych favorites from The Blog That Celebrates Itself's most recent compilation. TBTCI offered the 15-song comp as a way of wishing us and all a fab 2017. We thank them sincerely and offer similar best wishes to them and you. (Full disclosure: all 15 songs are actually in each widget, so tee-hee.)

We've loved Wormtowners The Prefab Messiahs for quite some time and just now discovered their LP Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive, one of our very favorite LPs of 2015, is available for name-your-price download at Bandcamp. Cue the Hallelujah Chorus, maan.

Saskatchewan's Spationauts are new to us, so we delved a bit deeper and are posting a couple of faves of theirs we put in our shopping cart at Bandcamp.
