Glenn Robinson, Man of Providence (and Rock and Ro-o-olllll)

Guessin' that's Glenn on the throne

Nor are we completely sure how we found out about this Rhode Island rocker, but it was obviously providence. And our recent Bandcamp purchases playlist just now reminded us how blessed we are. And then we found out the songs we purchased were available for free on a different EP. And then our Last.fm profile revealed he had thoughtfully planted a baker's handful (with an extra thumb or finger) of free downloads at his Last.fm page. And so, yes, the cybergods of thunder are doing righteous work today. Offer thanks at Bandcamp and read scripture here and here. And, yes, we ask forgiveness for this ridiculously worded post. But we expect none. And so we just go on sinning and sinning and sinning and can't seem to st

Aerial - Why Don't They Teach Heartbreak At School?

Actually, "they" didn't need to teach me anything about it, as I was relentlessly self-taught and have in fact proven to be a tireless, lifelong learner. For example, . . .

Oh, yeah [blush], kinda forgot, this isn't about me, it's about them, not the bozos at Dystopia High but the fabulous Aberdeenian powerpop trio, Aerial. After a thirteen-year hiatus, these high-flying Scots are right on the verge of takeoff for their second LP, the title of which we somewhat thoughtfully provided in the postitle above. Guitarist Steve Henderson was kind enough to let us know of the Monday, September 1 launch, as well as to let us host the excellent opening cut from WDTTHAS. You can hear a sampler at Soundcloud and do a bunch of in-depth research here and here. Frankly the month of September just got a whole lot better, and it hasn't even started yet.

Soarin' with The Persian Leaps (No Faith Required)

Lower hand, dude.

Yeh, Kierko, the evidence is right where we need it. St. Paul, MN men The Persian Leaps kindly sent us their forthcoming EP, Drive Drive Delay, and we can highly recommend your noting its release in the 12sept14 slot on your calendar. "Pretty Boy" is pretty awesome, so hep yourself. The widget says "buy," which please do, if so inclined, but if you want it for name-your-price download, click here. BTW, thanks, Leaps!! Visit them here and here. (BTW, we're pretty sure it was Oct 29 of last year.)

Here's our favorite from previous EP, Praise Elephants, available in its entirety for free download at Bandcamp.

Hurry Again: Great Psychpop by Beaulieu Porch & Spider 72

A year ago February we alerted you to some excellent Britpsychpop masterpieces by UK bands Beaulieu Porch and Spider 72 but then found out we were on the verge of being too late to the post. And so it's nice to have a chance at absolution, although once again, we don't know how long this offer stands. Tilsamanns Records have made several full LPs by the bands available for free download, so get thee hither, thither, and yon thith inthtant! Here are a few reasons why:

Update: So, yeh, like we said, we weren't sure how long they'd be free; it's 8/30/14, and they no longer are. They're most definitely worth buying, though, so take it from here.
Update of Update: Well, lookah here, it's John Lennon's and my sister's bday (10/9/14) and the songs look downloadable again. Kewel.

Learn more about Beaulieu Porch hereSpider 72 here, and Tilsamanns Records here. Will you be surprised to learn that we were alerted to the Beaulieu Porch deal by the ever alert 'n active Nathan Ford at The Active Listener? Of course you won't. And profusely do we thank Master Nathan Ford and Tilsamanns Records, forevah and evah.

Tiger Waves Roll Down, Down, Down South, Set Up Boutique

Grinning madly, we waved right back at Austin/Chicago duo Tiger Waves early on and posted quite a few of their songs. Now they've set up shop as Southern Boutique and, yes, we're most definitely "buying" their new wares, with big flapping pp waves and thumbsups of customer satisfaction. Here are a few of our favorites from SB's debut, self-titled LP, downloadable for free at Bandcamp. BTW, we've known about some initial action by SB for a couple of months now but would like to thank Master Nathan Ford at The Active Listener for the headsup on the entire LP.

Update, 8/20/14: While "researching" the Tiger Waves portion of this post, we came across a two-song "single" called "Weekends." The second song, "Sundressed," sounded very much like a most wonderful number we love called "I Love You George Harrison." We had posted it via Bandcamp widgets no longer consumable by human flesh but just now found it and "Weekends" in downloadable mp3 format over at Turntable Kitchen. Apparently not all things must pass. Hari Hari Hari.

We checked back on our Tiger Waves posts and found all the Bandcamp widgets had gone poof. But then we went over to SoundCloud, and - voila! - found a denful/seaful available for FREE DOWNLOAD, including the much cherished "Down, Down, Down." Bargain City, Babes In Toyland, Bargain City. Again, here are a few of our faves; an additional 27 free and legals await you at SoundCloud.

King Kartel's Jaunty Jangle

Seriously skinny legs

We said it before and we'll say it again: "Jaunty Jangle" . . . from three Newrymen and a Mancunian. We had a hard time resisting the urge to sing along (but just managed, having only heard the song once). Spend more quality time with them here, here, and here.

Thumbs Up, Ty Segall

We're thinking about glamming three dots under our right eye(s), too.
Not sure about the lipfrost, though. Thoughts?

The first, excellent, psychpop psingle from San Francisco rocker Ty Segall's forthcoming (August 26) seventeen (17)-song LP Manipulator is all over the webs today, mainly thanks to Seattle's KEXP blog. So thanks (mainly) to Seattle's KEXP blog.

And in case you missed it, here's Ty and band performing "Feel" on Conan last night. (It's fun watching long-time sidekick and ppfave Mikal Cronin bassing the groove. That recent freeb we posted is still there, as are a bunch of his songs we linked you to.)

Guided by Winter In Moscow

From songtitles to vox to instrumentation, this Shoreditch foursome (two Matts - or maybe one Matt and a Richard -, Gareth, and Tom) are obviously guided by voices most pleasant to our ears as well. Nor are they loath to admit it: "Our influences are many and varied but to name a few they would include Guided by Voices . . . Dinosaur Jr . . . Pixies." They also mention REM  and the late Jay Reatard , to which we loudly scream, "Pip pip." (True, they cite a couple of others that make us go "Meh," but hey, that's cool, so what? We love 'em on their own terms.) We're widgeting the whole EP but particularly like #'s 1, 4, & 6. Many thanks to The Mad Mackerel for the headsup on this and a bayful of other excellent new bands/artists.
