Music of the Sphere: Jonly Bonly, Warm Soda, Steel Phantoms, Best Coast, Gap Dream, Kinks, Crocodiles, Bubblegum Lemonade, La Luz, Tropical Popsicle, Of Montreal, FANS

Tasty licks.*

We've been throwing some longish lists at you lately, but no one seems to object. (Of course, no one seems to flutter either, but c'est la guerre. Admittedly, we kind of shrivel putting our dinky little lists up against the likes of Rollo & Grady's Brobdingnagian Top 100 Songs of 2013. Long list envy? Oh, yeh.) Anyway, we thank the blogger elite for hosting and posting the following.

Jonly Bonly - Never Thought I'd Die - Austin Town Hall

Warm Soda - Spell Bound - Gimme Tinnitus
Steel Phantoms - Matt LeBlanc - Gimme Tinnitus

Best Coast - This Lonely Morning - Indie Rock Cafe
Gap Dream - Fantastic Sam - Indie Rock Cafe
The Kinks - Better Things - Indie Rock Cafe - one of our all-time favesongs by one of our all-time favebands

R&G have enhanced by 20% their aforereferenced Top 100 Songs of 2013 list, to our incalculable awe. (Thanks, R. You too, G.)

Warm Soda - Someone For you - Rollo & Grady - #119
Crocodiles - I Like It In The Dark - Rollo & Grady - 109
Bubblegum Lemonade - This Is The New Normal - Rollo & Grady - 120

Warm Soda - I Wanna Go Fast

Just yesterday we prontodropped faveband Warm Soda's excellent new one into some of our Songdrop mixes. Just now we found the excellent Side One Track One has made it available for download. So should we wait until we've got five or eight tunes for a "traditional" Music of the Sphere post? Na. So thank you, SOTO, thank you, Jennifer, thank you Matthew Melton, for making some of our favorite music of the past several years. The new Warm Soda LP, Symbolic Dream, drops May 4 on Castle Face Records.

Polyvinyl Celebration 3: Warm Soda, White Reaper, The Rentals, Saturday Looks Good To Me

So, yeah, this should do it for the little impromptu Polyvinyl celebration thing we've been doing today. You've probably noticed by now, though, that we left approximately a jillion free and legals over at the Polyvinyl Bandcamp zone, so you take it from there. Or here.

Warm Soda are one of our very favorite current bands, as we've made fairly clear. In fact, their
Symbolic Dream was also on our list of Favorite LPs of 2015.

It's been a pretty busy Saturday around here, but, yeah, it does look pretty good, to us at least. If you didn't find anything to like, then . . . we'll just keep trying.

Our faves are below, and they're all at the same post. We omitted a few we've recently posted, but by all means, go and draw deeply from the well of delight they've dug and we dig. And, OF COURSE, thanks, Rollo. You, too, Grady. Glad to see youse're back.

Flowers, Wires, Soda, Matthew Melton, Pleasers: Some Past, Present, and Future Incarnations of . . . Matthew Melton

Not sure if you noticed Matthew Melton's excellent new solosong, "Painted Sign," over there in our Songdrop Currents mix, but if you're into any of the Tennessee-to San Fran-to Austin pleaser's other bands - Snake Flower 2, Bare Wires, Warm Soda, or the forthcoming Pleasers - you might wanta check it out. (Click on all those green artist names for further exploration.) A little research at the Southpaw Records SoundCloud page turned up a handful of freebies we're posting below. We might not be evincing sufficient emotion here, but we've been absolutely loving this guy's music for several years now. Oh, one other thing: we put another Snake Flower 2 song in our Currents mix even though it came out around five years ago. If offended, please shoot us (email, comment, finger, whatever).

Emergency MotS Post: Matthew Melton @ Still in Rock

Yes, no sooner do we send you to Still in Rock for a happy glut than wily Frenchman Thibault follows through with another certified winner. We've mentioned a number of times how much we love the music of Matthew Melton, he of Bare Wires, Warm Soda, Pleasers, Snake Flower 2, and wtf knows whom else*** fame. Fortunately Thibault shares our love and just today posted two new ones by MM. You can sample them below and, if you like, pay Still in Rock a visit to download.

Update: Longtime visitor John B. Goode wrote that these links weren't working. We checked and sure enough, left-clicking does not work for some reason. They do seem to work, though, if you open them in another tab. Try one of these three ways:

Click with the scroll wheel.
Ctrl-Left click
Right click-Open link in new tab

Hope these work. Please let us know if they don't. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks, JBG!

In addition to the Currents 2 Playlist in the upper right-hand corner of this page, we've also been keeping monthly playlists at Playmoss since early this year. For the past several months we've been going through them at the end of each month and curating our very favorites for each month. Below are our Faves of the Faves playlists for June and May of this year. You can see the full lists for each month by clicking the following: June 2017 & May 2017.

As sometimes happens with Playmoss, some of the artists are not identified in the widgets, so we've done so further below. The songs in each playlist are listed in the order we found them each month. We hope you find lots to like or love, 'cause we sure did.
