2017 Powerpopulist Faves

Tired of end-of-year lists? No? Well goody goody 'cause here's one we think you'll like. We sure did because it's, like, ours, duh: our very favorite powerpop, indiepop, janglepop, psychpop, whateverpop songs of 2017. Every song's a personal eargasm, so that's a groovy skyrockets-in-flight kind of thing. As suggested below, this is not a ranking but more of a chronology by release and discovery.

"Whaaaaaaat, only 109 songs??? You're a piker, pp."

Yeah, but we've listened to (or sampled) thousands of new songs this year and cried crocotears leaving out dearly beloveds from the list. So this is actually quite a winnowing, a harvesting, a curation, if you will. Only the choicest numbers for y/our delectation. Plus also there's actually more than 109. (See below.) Plus you can go to our Powerpopulist Playmoss Collection to see/hear monthly favorites and genre-specific playlists. Oodles of them.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy. The songs are listed pretty close to the order in which we discovered them, although songs by the same artist are grouped together. And btw, Playmoss wouldn't show the artist name for some of the songs, so here is that valuable information

#8 - Tobin Sprout - Future Boy Today/Man Of Tomorrow
40 - R. Stevie Moore & Jason Falkner - Horror Show
42 - Wiretree - J. F. Sebastian
45 - Alain Pire Experience - The Sun Don't Shine
78 - Walker Brigade - Voodoo Doll

Also, Playmoss wouldn't smoothly play some of our faves, so we're adding them below. So, yeah, there are actually more than 109.

Bandname = Free Machines

Here's wishing you a Great New Year, musically and otherwise.

Faves from Drunken Sailor Compilations: Marvelous Mark, First Base, The Cowboys, Malos Modales, Wonk Unit, Flamingo 50

Ahoy (hic!), maties. Our reshent posht on the fab new LP by First Base led us to some other fun name-your-price downloadables courtesy of Drunken Sailor Records. We've sampled all 56 songs on three DSR compilations and post below our very favorites. The dipso mariner tends toward the fast, fuzzy, and furious, but our selections tend toward a more poppy mode. Each widget below has all the songs on each comp, so if we've been a bit tame for your taste, dive right in and get falling down happy. Click here to view the full Drunken Sailor discography.

We've posted previously on this top-notch Torontan, and some of the songs we posted are still available for name-your-price download (including this very next one).

You probably wondered why we left this one out of that aforementioned First Base post. (Sure, pp, sure, we pay infinite attention to everything you do.) Well, we were saving it for this post.

First Base Hit A Grand Slam

We merrily posted songs by Toronto band First Base two times previously and were pumped to find their new Drunken Sailor Records LP is not only Not That Bad but pretty much rockingly excellent from start to finish. You can either buy the whole digital album at Bandcamp or download each song individually on a name-your-price basis. Below are our very favorites from the new LP. To go to a song's name-your-price download page, simply click the song title.

If you go to our previous posts, you'll find a couple of songs still available for free download, (Some songs that were previously available have mysteriously disappeared, hence the ugly black lacunae at one of the posts.)

At the First Base SoundCloud page you will find a bunch of cover songs available for free download, along with some that are strictly for streaming. To discover if a song is downloadable, click ". . . More" and see if the drop-down menu says "Download."
