Bloom/Decay - A Dot Dash Freebie
Many thanks to Washington, D. C. powerpoppers Dot Dash for alerting us to the free download of the following tune from their 2013 LP, Half-Remembered Dream. You can catch them live tonight at The Black Cat in D. C. and in Rockville, MD on January 29, along with the B-52's. Their fourth, Mitch Easter-produced (!) LP is due out in January 2015.

From PressWolfPR with (we hope) Love: Pink Frost, Hollows, Shrouded Strangers, White Mystery, Blank Tapes
We were looking for something else at PWPR's Soundcloud page and howled with glee to find the following available for free and legal download. (They've got quite a few others there as well.)
"B-b-but, pp, these are like two years old! We already have them. We don't need them. You are wasting our time." If that's you, we thank you for speaking out, as we like to imagine how it might be to get, like, comments from our visitors. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

More to Love from The Candy Strypers
Labels:

Touched by Strange Hands
We had bought a bunch of songs off Strange Hands' excellent 2012 LP Dead Flowers and didn't even kneaux they were from Bordeaux. Here's a freebie from that LP, followed by another from a psych compilation courtesy of Exploring Spastic Inevitable.
Click here for the free download.
If you're "getting into" this, check out their "Golden Arrows" in our Songdrop Currents mix (upper right of this page) or click here.
Tweest & Shout with Cozy Catastrophes!
Is it possible to be tooo twee? About such things reasonable people will stab and maim and mutilate and get in pillow fights with one another, but we prefer to hear what this Bloomington one-man bander has to say/sing. The following is perhaps the heaviest number on 2013's An Instructive Amusement.
We also enjoyed songs from Way Last June, released this past July on February Records.
Labels:
Cozy Catastrophes,
February Records
Trick Mammoth: Delphine (With A Purpose)
It's almost axiomatic, isn't it, that if a band's from Dunedin, they're going to please? (Yes, pp, quite whatev.) We're not sure how we found these particular Kiwis, but we're awfully glad we did. Check out more at the Fishrider Records site.
You might also enjoy their "Doll," which we dropped at . . . Songdrop. See our Currents mix to the right or click here.

Perfect for Monday: Dead Albatross, Skategang, CATNAPS, hot shorts, Fat Children, Super Medusa
These recent finds are perfect for kicking your Monday aspirations into gear. So what if it's actually Sunday.
We also like #'s 6, 4, 2, 1, 3, & 5 by these Paris poppunks. - from our buddy Alex Twist's excellent Requiem Pour Un Twister label; thanks to Faster and Louder for the headsup and the kind of in-depth analysis you would never hope to find at our sleazy little pseudoblog.
Go here for more 'nip o' the 'NAPS. Ja, sure, we should've waited till vals (sic) day, but, hey, it's yuletide! Speaking of which:
#1's the 1 we like. Your parsecage might vary (but probably won't).

The Sunchymes Say Thanks (And So Do We)
Near the end of the Summer/Winter we posted a nice new mix by Northampton's The Sunchymes. Now as we near the end of Fall/Spring, we're happy to receive a gift from the one-manner thanking us for our support. So of course we want to share it with you, with thanks for yours and thanks to the band for many sunny tymes. We're excited to hear they're hoping to release their third LP sometime next year. You can still buy a copy of the excellent LP Let Your Free Flag Fly at CD Baby.
Update: Original freebie is now low-priced.

Popscotch: Sugar Stems, Legendary Wings, Rotten Mangos, Marvelous Beauhunks, Stellarscope, Everywheres, Walking Who, Dutch Barn
We enjoyed that last hopscotch episode so much we're going to try it again. The setup is simple: we start with recent tunes we've found (and loved) and work our way backwards for x number of months or years. We do not adhere to strict chronological order. Is that all right? Hope you find something you like.
You'll find a number of fine tunes on that Dirtnap Records 2014 Sampler. In fact, here's another one that plunked our twanger:
We're very much liking several numbers on this Austin's band's EP. Thanks to The Proper Yarn for the headsup.

The Well Wishers Tweak "Father Nature"
Tweakin's tiring.
The Well Wishers' chief Wisher, Jeff Shelton, has been tweaking the final song on this year's superb LP A Shattering Sky and is making it possible for all of "us" to profit thereby. We pp's don't usually make "Best Of" lists, but if we did, A Shattering Sky would most definitely be on ours for 2014. Does that mean we're on the verge of shattering tradition, that for the first time in our blog's eight-year history we're gonna succumb to year-end listomania? Nnnnnnnnnnmaybe, but don't hold your breath. We do, however, want to expend both breath and cyber in thanks to Jeff for making this free download available. The entire LP is available for purchase here, here, and here. Faceoff friendlily here. Some of our previous Jeff-sanctioned posted freebies can be found here.
