Music of the Sphere: Lambrettas, Sunflower Bean, I Was a King, Gentleman Jesse And His Men, Telekinesis, An Horse, Kaiser Chiefs, Love is All, Cruiserweight, Glasvegas, Longwave, Metric, Spoon, Blink-182

This was going to be a simple followup to yesterday's Austin Town Hall archives post (and basically still is), but we thought we'd include a couple of recent finds as well, while we're at it. Hope that's okay with youse.

The Lambrettas - Living For Today & Da-a-a-ance - Still in Rock

Sunflower Bean - I Was Home - KEXP Blog (pic)

From ATH Way Back When:

I Was a King - Norman Bleik - Austin Town Hall

Telekinesis - Coast of Carolina - Austin Town Hall
An Horse - Camp Out - Austin Town Hall

Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss a Beat - Austin Town Hall

We checked and found that our mp3 link to that fabulous IWaK debut is still working, but what the heck, ATH deserved your custom. You might enjoy the live video we posted there, so let's post it here as well. Great performance, plus you get to practice your Norwegian.

Found at ATH: Pontiffs of Puff, aka "The Smoking Popes"

On a whim we betook ourselves to the very first post at Austin Town Hall, one of our favorite music blogs, and began to work our way from past toward present. We actually had time to make it through only the first year of ATH's existence but along the way encountered a number of pleasure-giving aural opportunities to which we wish to alert you. In a separate post we will publish the rest of what we've found so far but wanted to lead with our very favorite song by Windy City faveband The Smoking Popes. Sample it below and if you like, click this ATH link for enhanced activity. Buy some here and here.

New Planet Trampoline Are Outta This World

These Cleveland psychpoppers def got us jumping. We lead with a downloadable oldie and then point you toward some personal faves from their March 2016 release, Dark Rides and Grim Visions. (It don't get much poppier than that, wot?)

We also particularly like #7, 9, & 11.

The LP title of course reminded us of The Damned's "Grimly Fiendish," but here's our favorite from Phantasmagoria.

Streamer: Household Names - Hold On Tight!

Recent promptings, within and without, decree the posting of this Austune.
Frankly, it's beyond my control.

From The Active Listener Sampler 41: Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Diamond Incarnation, The Creatures of the Golden Dawn, Psychic Lemon

Well, it's another month (it always is . . . eventually) and therefore another top-notch compilation from the top-notch blog/daily fix known as The Active Listener. Spotlighted below are our four favorites, but within each widget is each of the seventeen mindblowers in this 41st sampler. ( When we saw that number, we felt a flicker of farback flummox. For some reason, in one phase of our wasted youth, we and our fellow dingbats always used to smirk nastily at the number 41. Like if your P.E. shorts were number "41," everyone else would smirk while you (we) blushed. Never actually figured out why, but we smirked (and blushed) with the best (or worst) of 'em. When we moved to a bigger city we never encountered this particular numerical taboo again (although "maturity" put us in touch with other, rather pleasurable, ones.))

Note: Click on the comptitle to go to its Bandcamp page, which has links to the bands in the sampler.

Goodman's Gullah Gullah Island

I guess we missed the original that so inspired good man Goodman, but we love this cover he's made 'n' dropped for nyp download. We've been enjoying this nyp (new york popper) for several years now, so what better way to celebrate Primary Day in the Empire State?

While we're at it, here's Goodman's "Telegram Girl," one of our very favorite powerpop tunes from 2015. Sure, we dropped it into a Songdrop widget long ago, but maybe you missed it? Oh, and a hearty huzzah now that Songdrop has reappeared! Be still my hearts.

Songdropless Sunday: The Orange Kyte, REVERENDS, New Age Healers, The Blurry Minds, Sun Mahshene

These actually dropped but so, apparently, has Songdrop, as in "outtasight." We hope it's just temporary, but in case it isn't, we wanted to post these outtasight little numbers we found at that psuperb Psychgazer post .106 we referenced yesterday.

SoundCloud Catchup: Verge Collection, Work Drugs, Gap Dream, Winter In Moscow, Mr. Bones, pet cemetery, Pinact, Nai Harvest, Ben Pearce, Maybelleen, Tacocat, Into the Woods

We looked back through our mp3 "green room" and found a shocking number of SoundClouders we haven't posted. We're starting at the present and working our way back to sometime in December of last year. If this is overwhelming, well, you're welcome. Better sated than sorry.

From the TBTCI BOO Comp: Duelectrum, The City Gates, Did You Die, 93MillionMilesFromTheSun

Below are our four favorites from The Blog That Celebrates Itself's excellent tribute to 90s Liverpool popgazers The Boo Radleys. We've posted them in a kind of order, but they're actually the first four songs on the comp, should you prefer hearing them that way.

P.S.: Songdrop seems to be going through one of its periodic cockups, so we apologize for that hideous one-eyed widget action in the upper right of this page. Maybe by the time you read this, it'll just be a bad memory (for us).

The White Tulips Gaze & Fondle (Our Ears)

Xia Men band play nice, and we found just the right emotions aroused. Thanks to Shoegazer Alive 9 for the headsup. Here's their Facebook. Below's the one we like best, although you can hear them all.

Supercherruy "doesn't wanna share it," but We Do.

Uptempo psych in a big WAVE file, so you might want to convert to mp3. Found at Psychgazer post .106, which has some pretty pstunning pstuff. More freebies at Londoners' SoundCloud page. Facebook 'em 'ere.

These Wouldn't (Song)drop: The High Learys, Woods, Radiohearts, The Graffiti Crimes, The Ramisco Maki Maki Rocking Horse, Dream Boys

We tried to feed these to Songdrop, but for some reason it wouldn't ingest. We like-or-love-'em so much we wanted to make sure you hear them, so voila.

By the way, as you may know, on the left-hand side of this page we generally try to feed you free and legal downloadables, but this might be changing. A highly valued longtime visitor said such punctilio isn't really necessary in an age of subscription music platforms. We would very much like to know how much you value the freely/legally downloadable aspect of this and other blogs, so drop us a comment if you care to weigh in. Thanks.
